Before, Adam worked as a United States representative from Illinois from 2011 until 2023. A member of the Republican Party, Adam originally represented Illinois’s 11th congressional district and afterward Illinois’s 16th congressional district. Adam is a lieutenant colonel in the Air National Guard.

Andrew’s district was largely merged with the 16th after the 2010 census, and he transferred to the 16th after defeating its incumbent, Don Manzullo, in the Republican primary.
