Jerry Schemmel ( Full name: Gerard H. Schemmel) is an American sportscaster. He currently serves as a sportscaster for Sports Radio 104.3 in Denver, Colorado, and The Fan and for KFKA Radio in Greeley, CO. He as well serves as a radio voice for the University of Northern Colorado Bears. Jerry is the creator and host of a weekly national radio show called “Amazing Americans.”

The journalist spent 10 years serving as the radio play-by-play voice of Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies.  Before that, Jerry was a play-by-play announcer for the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. He called their games from 1992 to 2010. During the earlier years of his career, the journalist served as a play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In June 2015, Jerry competed in the Race Across America as part of a two-person relay team. The competition was a 3,000-mile bicycle race from Oceanside, California, to Annapolis, Maryland, Jerry and his competitor named Brad Cooper won the two-person relay division after they finished in 7 days, 14 hours. Jerry attempted RAAM in 2021 as a solo racer. However, he was forced to withdraw from the race after encountering 120-degree temps in the Mojave Desert which caused him to suffer from Heat Stroke.

Jerry was a member of a four-person relay in 2016 that set the record for a 468-mile cycling race from the Utah/Colorado border to the Kansas/Colorado border called the “Colorado Crossing.” The following year, the journalist set the solo age group record in the same event after he finished in 33 hours, 3 minutes. His record was  54 minutes from the all-time speed record for the event that was set in 1992.  Apart from that, Jerry has also completed nine triathlons and three marathons.
