Steve Letarte is an American journalist and sportscaster. Currently, he works at NBC Sports as a color analyst on their telecasts for NASCAR. Steve left Hendrick Motorsports following the 2014 season after 20 years with the team.
From 2005 to 2010, he served as the pit crew chief for Jeff Gordon, taking over the No. 24 Chevrolet from Robbie Loomis. Additionally, from 2011 to 2014 he served as Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief. Steve returned in 2021 to be the crew chief of Corey Lajoie’s No. 7 Spire Motorsports team.

Steve works alongside Rick Allen, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Jeff Burton in the NBC Sports broadcast booth during NBC Sports Group’s live coverage of NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series races. Before, joining NBC Sports, he served as a crew chief for Hendrick Motorsports, leading the No. 88 team driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. from 2011 to 2014. Prior to serving with Dale Jr., Steve stood at the helm of Jeff Gordon’s famed No. 24 race team for six seasons.

Steve Letarte Dale Jr
From February 2011 to November 2014, Steve was Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crew chief. The 2015 Coke Zero 400 was his first race, incidentally won by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Their first season together started with Dale on the pole at the Daytona 500 and ended with Dale Jr.’s return to the Chase for the first time since 2008. In 2012, Steve and Dale combined for their first win together.
