Debora Patta is a Zimbabwean born South African broadcast journalist, television producer, and investigative journalist. She has ancestry from Calabria, Italy but was born in Southern Rhodesia which is present-day Zimbabwe.

Currently, Patta is the Africa correspondent for the American television network CBS, for its news program, The CBS Evening News. Previously, she worked for the long-running investigative and current affairs show, hosting 3rd Degree with Debora Patta before joining CBS in 2013. Patta has won numerous awards and recognitions over the course of her career.

Patta was born in Southern Rhodesia to her Italian father who had emigrated as a railway employee. Her father was originally from Rome Italy but details about her mother’s origin are not available. However, it is known that her mother was a nurse by profession and a devout Catholic.

Her parents later divorced in 1976, where she moved to South Africa with her mother and sister. Patta attended Rustenburg School for Girls in Cape Town from where she matriculated in 1981. She then proceeded to the University of Cape Town where she graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences degree in 1984. While at the university, Patta briefly taught aerobics.

Patta was first married in 1995 to Mweli Mzizi, a black filmmaker. Their interracial marriage was not well received.

In 2000, the couple attempted unsuccessfully to gain access to a whites-only picnic resort in the Free State together. They filmed the incident on hidden cameras which was aired fr her 3rd Degree show on racism. The couple eventually divorced in 2002 with Patta marrying Lance Levitas in June the following year.
