Jerry Craft is a prominent American cartoonist and children’s book illustrator. He is best known for his graphic novels New Kid, Class Act, and School Trip.
Furthermore, Jerry is also well known for his syndicated newspaper comic strip Mama’s Boyz. Moreover, he is one of the few syndicated African American cartoonists in the country.

After that, Jerry spent eight years creating sales brochures for King Features Syndicate. Because of this relationship with King Features, Jerry’s Mama’s Boyz started airing in syndication in 1995.
Later, he held the position of editorial director for the Sports Illustrated for Kids website, where he received a nomination for a New Media Award from the National Cartoonists Society for his collection of well-liked Flash cartoons. In October 2006, he resigned from that job in order to focus exclusively on cartooning.
Jerry regularly does cartooning seminars in libraries, camps, and schools. His graphic novel New Kid won the Newbery Medal on January 27, 2020, making it the first graphic novel to do so. The Kirkus Prize and the Coretta Scott King Author Award were both given to New Kid.
