She started her broadcast career at the age of 12 years as the host of Paleokids, a Spanish Language program for children on Discovery Channel in Latin America. Gilma contributed to the winning of the New York Award by NBC 4 for COVID-19 coverage. Before joining NBC 4, she was working as an anchor and reporter for KTVT in Dallas from 2014 to 2019.
