Winston Marshall ( Full name: Winston Aubrey Aladar deBalkan Marshall) is a British musician and podcaster. He is best known as the former banjoist and lead guitarist of the British folk-rock band called Mumford & Sons. Previously, Winston was in the bluegrass sleaze rap group named Captain Kick and the Cowboy Ramblers.
He has won multiple awards with Mumford & Sons, including a Grammy and two BRITs. Winston has performed music with the different supergroups. Also, he has collaborated with Baaba Maal and HVOB. Winston started an interview podcast after leaving Mumford & Sons.
Winston started playing guitar at the age of 13. He started a ZZ Top cover group called Gobbler’s Knob. Winston described the genre in 2013 as “the lowest form of art” while the other members of Mumford & Sons were influenced by jazz. After seeing O Brother, Where Art Thou?, he was inspired to play the banjo. He switched to folk music and wore his hair in dreadlocks.
