His career kicked off as a sports anchor, sports reporter, and photographer for WXEX-TV, now WRIC from 1985 to 1987. After WXEX-TV, he served as a weekend sports anchor and sports reporter at WBAL-TV in Baltimore from 1987 to 1990. In addition, Vern Joined KRON 4 News in 1990 and was part of the KNBR Radio Morning show in 1998.
