Tom Douglas is an American executive chef, radio talk show host, author, and restaurateur popularly recognized for winning the 1994 James Beard Award for Best Northwest Chef.
He co-hosts Seattle Kitchen alongside Thierry Rautureau, a show about local and national cookbook authors and personalities. Tom has appeared in several television cook shows including Food Network’s Iron Chef America where he defeated Chef Masaharu Morimoto in 2005.
Additionally, he has published several cookbooks including Douglas’ Seattle Kitchen which was named the Best American Cookbook by both KitchenAid and James Beard Foundation. Throughout his career as a chef, Tom has been awarded numerous awards and honors such as the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurateur in 2012 and the Bon Appétit Magazine Award for Restaurateur of the Year (2008).
Despite being among the Best Executive Chefs in the United States, Tom never attended professional culinary school, he developed his natural talent by traveling and eating at various world-class restaurants throughout Europe and the United States. His very first job was at Hotel DuPont, where he worked as the assistant to the hotel’s cook. During his free time, Tom loves traveling, cooking, and spending time with his family.
