Tim Sebastian is a tv journalist and novelist. He currently serves as the moderator of Conflict Zone and The New Arab Debates. They are both broadcast on Deutsche Welle. Previously, Tim worked for the BBC, where he hosted The Doha Debate. He was the first presenter of HARDtalk. Also, Tim presented an India-focused debating program, Bloomberg TV’s The Outsider.
He won the British Academy of Film and Television Arts ( BAFTA) Richard Dimbleby award in 1981. In 2000 and 2001, Tim won Britain’s prestigious Royal Television Society Interviewer of the Year award. Tim is a frequent moderator of major conferences, seminars, and forums across the world. He served as the chairman of a Qatar Foundation program called The Doha Debates which was broadcast monthly on BBC World News.
The show was the highest-rated weekend program. The Debates were founded by Tim in 2004 and their fifth series started in September 2008. Tim founded The New Arab Debates after the political and social unrest in Egypt and Tunisia in early 2011. The show has been held in Egypt, Tunisia, and Jordan and was broadcast on Deutsche Welle English and regional television channels. Those debates are held in Arabic and hosted by Egyptian TV presenter Mai El Sherbiny as well.
