Steve Rattner ( Full Name: Steven Lawrence Rattner) is a popular American investor, media commentator, and former journalist who is now chairman and chief executive officer of Willett Advisors LLC. Besides, Steve is the Economic Analyst for MSNBC’s Morning Joe as well as a Contributing Writer for the Op-Ed page of The New York Times. Steve previously worked as a counselor to the secretary of the Treasury and led the Obama administration’s successful effort to restructure the automobile industry, which he featured in his book, Overhaul: An Insider’s Account of the Obama Administration’s Emergency Rescue of the Auto Industry.
In 2000, Steve formed Quadrangle Group LLC, a private investment firm that had over $6 billion of assets under management. Steve was the Managing Principal there until February 2009. Prior to the start of his investment banking career, Steve worked as a journalist for The New York Times for nine years, mostly as an economic correspondent in New York, London, and Washington. In 1982, Steve joined Lehman Brothers and was later a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley prior to leaving to serve as a General Partner at Lazard Frères in 1989.
While at Lazard Frères & Co., Steve worked as Deputy Chairman and Deputy Chief Executive Officer. He has dedicated time to both public and philanthropic organizations as a board member or trustee. Steve was the Chairman of the Educational Broadcasting Corporation, a Fellow at Brown University as well as Chairman of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City, among others. He is now a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
