Sarah Richardson is a popular Canadian interior designer, TV host, producer, four-time best-selling author, and entrepreneur. She started her profession as a prop stylist in 1994. Since then, Sarah has hosted nine television series on design for HGTV in Canada. She is the winner of a Gemini Award and Canada’s Top 40 Under 40 award.
She runs the interior design firm Sarah Richardson Design, which she created in 1998. Sarah has released many best-selling interior design books and also operates her eponymous YouTube channel with more than one hundred thousand subscribers. Previously, she was a contributor and columnist on design and style for The Globe and Mail and Chatelaine.

She was born in Toronto, Ontario, to her parents Susan Cuddy and Douglas Richardson. Sarah’s mother Susan worked as director of design and development for the old City of Toronto. Her dad Douglas was a professor of history of art and architecture at the Campus of Toronto. Sarah has a brother named Theo Richardson who works as a designer and a partner in the New York City firm of Rich, Brilliant, Willing. When she was five years old, her parents divorced.
Sarah studied high school in Toronto at Havergal College. In 1993, she earned a B.A. in Visual Arts from the Campus of Western Ontario. While there Sarah was in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority.

Sarah is married to her husband Alexander Younger. Her husband is a businessman who created a Toronto-based digital marketing and design lab in 1992. Sarah is an interior designer. Originally from a long line of artisans, it was a natural choice for her to follow her passion for art. She learned Metalsmithing at the Rhode Island School of Design, with additional design studies in Germany. In 1998, Sarah founded the interior design firm Sarah Richardson Design. In 2006, she returned to CA and set up her own studio. Sarah is also a designer of different types of wedding rings.

Sarah and the Toronto-based designer Tommy Smythe worked together for 19 years. Tommy Smythe assisted Sarah on her many shows: Design Inc., Sarah’s House, Sarah’s Cottage, and Sarah Off the Grid. When Tommy graduated from his post at Sarah Richardson Design in 2020, it was to began his own interior design studio called TOM Design Studio.
