Ronald Burkle ( Full name: Ronald Wayne Burkle) is an American businessman, prominent Democratic activist, and fundraiser. He is the co-founder and managing partner of a private investment firm called The Yucaipa Companies, LLC. This firm specializes in U.S. companies in the distribution, sports, logistics, entertainment, food, hospitality, consumer, retail, and light industrial sectors.
The Yucaipa has executed grocery-chain mergers as well as acquisitions that involve supermarket chains such as Ralphs, Fred Meyer, and Jurgensen’s. The company once owned stakes in about 35 companies, including Whole Foods Market and the grocery chains A&P before their respective demise and takeover.
