Rip Rogers (Real Name Mark Sciarra) is a former American professional wrestler. He currently serves as the head trainer for Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). Rip began wrestling in 1977. After a while, he co-founded the “Convertible Blondes” along with Pez Whatley and Gary Royal. They formed this union with Angelo Poffo’s International Championship Wrestling (ICW). The union won the Tag Team Titles with Royal.
The Fabulous Freebirds defended regional NWA tag team championships by wrestling with any two of the three members, also, the Convertible Blondes used the so-called “Freebird Rule” while defending the ICW Tag Team Championship in the same manner. However, Rip left the ICW after he was involved in a dispute with Angelo Poffo’s son called Randy Poffo, whose ring name is Randy Savage.
He occasionally wrestled in the United States for a time with a promotion in Indianapolis called Circle City Wrestling. Finally, Rip settled in Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) in 1997. He joined Dave the Rave and co-founded the “Suicide Blondes” with Jason Lee. Rip retired from active competition in 2000, he was named head trainer at OVW at his retirement.
At the age of 48, Rip was involved in a car accident where he was hit by a car and sustained injuries. The accident forced him to completely retire from the in-ring competition; As per the 2011 story on OVW, the accident left him “with a stiff limp”. Currently, he runs an advanced wrestling class at OVW, where he also teaches up-and-coming wrestlers.
