As his daughter Nicole walked home from work in the city, a drunk and unlicensed driver lost control of her SUV. He careened up onto the sidewalk and crushed her against a wall. After she was taken to the hospital, the doctor said if this accident had happened in the suburbs, Nicole probably wouldn’t have lived long enough to get to the hospital.
The center part of her skeleton had been shattered, eleven breaks of her pelvis alone, and many other devastating injuries. In 2021, Paul wrote an article reporting that her daughter Nicole was doing very well. However, for three years of emotional and spiritual travail, they focused on getting her through the day, hopping and playing that tomorrow would be better.

Paul David Tripp Parenting | Parenting Book
His book titled Parenting: 14 Gospel Principles That Can Radically Change Your Family was published on September 30, 2016. In this book, Paul offers parents much more than a to-do list because most parents get lost in the midst of folding laundry, coordinating carpool schedules, and breaking up fights.
They feel pressure to do everything “right” and raise up “good” children. It is easy to lose sight of their ultimate purpose as parents in the quest for practical tips and guaranteed formulas. Paul presents us with a big-picture view of God’s plan for us as parents. He outlines 14 foundational principles centered on the gospel. Paul shows that we need more than the latest parenting strategy or list of techniques.
Paul David Tripp New Morning Mercies
His book titled New Morning Mercies: A Daily Gospel Devotional was published on October 31, 2014. in this book, Paul encourages those who have grown weary of the struggle, living under the weight of the world. According to him, mornings can be tough, and sometimes, a hearty breakfast and a strong cup of coffee just aren’t enough. Paul wants to energize you with the most potent encouragement imaginable: the gospel. Help you forget “behavior modification” or feel-good aphorisms. He knows that what we really need is an encounter with the living God.
Paul David Tripp Illness
He hs shared a story about his personal suffering in an article called What You Need To Know About Suffering. In 2014, Paul went to see a doctor with what felt like minor symptoms. Before he knew what was happening, they admitted him to the hospital for what became an excruciatingly painful ten-day stay. The abbreviated story is that he was in acute kidney failure.
Paul waited for another seven to ten days to go to the hospital, you probably wouldn’t be receiving his weekly email devotional. Four years and six surgeries later, his symptoms are as manageable as possible. However, he has been left a physically damaged man. Paul learned and was reminded of many things through his illness.
Perhaps one of the most significant principles is Our suffering is more powerfully shaped by what’s in our heart than by what’s in our body or the world around us. His suffering was real, the dysfunction in his body was real, the pain he went through was horribly real, the damage to his kidneys is real, and the weakness that is now his normal life will continue to be real.
