However, in December 1993, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in his right shoulder. Paul underwent treatment that included six months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation in California. Moreover, he won the 2000 tournament in seven seasons at the Sony Open in Hawaii. In addition, he became the 2008 captain of the U.S. Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville where he lead the team to its first victory over the European squad since 1999. He last played at The ACE Group Classic during his championship tour in February 2010, where he played four events.

He was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a cancer disease that affects the Lymphs. The disease attacked his right shoulder in December 1993. Paul underwent treatment that included six months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation in California. Also, the doctor said the cancer is localized in Azinger’s shoulder and there is no evidence of it spreading beyond there. Further, the doctors performed surgery to clean out the roof of the shoulder socket and removed a small piece of bone from the blade. Later the tests for cancerous tissue were negative.
