Nigella Lawson is an English food writer and television cook. After graduating from the University of Oxford, where she was a member of Lady Margaret Hall, she started work as a book reviewer and restaurant critic.

Later, Nigella became the deputy literary editor of The Sunday Times in 1986. She then embarked upon a career as a freelance journalist, writing for a number of newspapers and magazines. She hosted the Food Network’s Nigella Feasts in the United States in 2006, followed by a three-part BBC Two series, Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen, in the UK, which led to the commissioning of Nigella Express on BBC Two in 2007.

She was born in Wandsworth, London to her parents Nigel Lawson and Vanessa Salmon. Nigella’s father was a future Conservative MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer in Margaret Thatcher’s government. Her mother was a socialite[8] and the heiress to the J. Lyons and Co. fortune. Both Nigella’s parents were from Jewish families and divorced in 1980 when Nigella was 20.

They both remarried: her father to a House of Commons researcher, Therese Maclear until 2008, and her mother, in the early 1980s, to philosopher A. J. Ayer until her mother’s death. Nigella’s mother died of liver cancer in Westminster, London at the age of 48.

INGREDIENTS
Serves: 1

2 shots vodka
1 shot advocaat
lemonade to top up
a spritz of lemon juice or lime juice (optional)
1 maraschino cherry (optional)

METHOD
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add vodka and advocaat (using just 1 shot of vodka and 2 of advocaat if you want a gentler cocktail) and shake well before straining into a martini glass or champagne coupe; these amounts are enough for a glass of 125ml / ½ cup capacity.
Top with a splosh of lemonade and, if wished, add a spritz of lemon or lime juice and a maraschino cherry. Chin-Chin!
