Monica Villamizar ( Full name: Mónica Villamizar Villegas) is a Colombian American broadcast freelance journalist. She currently works for PBS Newshour, Univision. Previously, Monica served as a reporter for ABC News, Al Jazeera English, CBS, and Vice News.
She has also covered the drug wars in Colombia and Mexico. During that time, Monica gained exclusive access to cocaine cartels in Medellin and Michoacan. The journalist covered the Arab spring and the advance of ISIS into Iraqi Kurdistan in the Middle East. She most recently dedicated herself to covering the advance of jihadism in West Africa. The journalist has been targeted by the Egyptian military in her attempts to tell truthful, hard-hitting stories.
