Between 2017 to 2019, he was a Trump administration appointee in the United States Department of Homeland Security. While at the DHS, Taylor served in different roles including as Chief of Staff to Kirstjen Nielsen, former Homeland Security Secretary, and later to Acting Secretary Chad Wolf.
Since leaving the DHS, Taylor has been working at Google and endorsed Joe Biden for President of the United States denouncing Trump at the same time. As of August 2020, he was the highest-ranking former member of staff in the Trump Administration to endorse Biden.

But, right now, American voters are reviewing the president’s resume…so, I think there’s no more important time for me or other ex-Trump officials to come out and actually talk about what the experience was inside the administration and what kind of man sits behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.
Trump denounced Taylor and even denied any knowledge of a DHS staffer by that name on Twitter. On the other hand, Taylor replied by posting a photo of himself standing next to Trump in the Oval Office.
