He started his undergraduate studies at New York University. While there, Michael joined the sketch comedy group The New Group. Later, he transferred to and graduated from Brown University. The New Group changed its name to The State after Michael completed college and started creating video shorts for an MTV show called You Wrote It, You Watch It. It was hosted by Jon Stewart. The New Group then got its own sketch comedy TV series, The State. It aired on MTV for two years.
He has also had various smaller roles in movies and TV shows. Michael appeared on ESPN Classic in the pilot episode playing the arrogant host of Cheap Seats called Ron Parker.
