Meredith Kopit Levien is an American media executive. Currently, she serves as the chief executive officer of The New York Times Company. Meredith worked at a think tank founded by David G. Bradley called The Advisory Board Company after her graduation. She then went to work for the digital agency i33/AppNet.
David then bought Atlantic Media (publisher of The Atlantic) and he recruited Meredith as an ad director in 2003. She became the first publisher of Atlantic Media’s magazine 02138 in 2006. Meredith joined Forbes Media in April 2008, where she ran Forbes Life (magazine). She mainly focused on the digital side of the magazine which helped in stemming losses.
C.E.O. Tim Forbes appointed her group publisher in 2010. Meredith implemented programmatic buying (where the purchase of advertisements is done through online media) and Brandvoice. The latter allows advertisers to create their own content under the Forbes logo. As a new method of advertising, it is denominated as native advertising and has been criticized for blurring the line between editorial and advertising.
