Melinda Doolittle ( Full name: Melinda Marie Doolittle ) is an American well-known artist and singer. She participated in the American Idol show and finished as the third-place finalist on the sixth season of the show. Before Melinda’s appearance on American Idol, she worked as a professional backup singer for other artists such as Anointed, Michael McDonald, Carman, Kirk Franklin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Aaron Neville, Jonny Lang, Alabama, and BeBe and CeCe Winans.
After Melinda told her mom that she wanted to join a young group talent show, Marguerite searched for the right words that we’re honest and could not crush her daughter’s dreams. The first thing that she told Melinda was that she had to pray – HARD and that was exactly what Melinda did. For a month, Melinda prayed harder than she had ever prayed before and she practiced and practiced.
The night of the talent show, she got to the youth group, her youth pastor had heard Melinda sing before and he knew the potential for disaster. However, he still believed in her. When Melinda walked onto the stage, she heard the music start, she closed her eyes and opened her mouth and a different voice came out. Miraculously, Melinda sang with a perfect pitch that night and brought down the house.
Later, she realized that her life could be much bigger. From there, not only could Melinda sing but she could also hear harmonies. Her professional career began in 1999 although she has been singing since the seventh grade at Belmont University. Melinda was a music major. Since college, Melinda’s vocal instruction has been provided by Janet Kenyon.

A judge called Simon said that the performance was incredible while Paula said it was just astounding since Melinda phrased the song so beautifully, so differently, that Paula applauded her. For her last semi-final performance, Melinda performed the song titled “I’m a Woman.” Simon Cowell called her “a little tiger,” and added that he thought they had a pussycat.
