He was a Denali mountain guide and life-long Alaskan survivalist and has made his living off the grid, and on the mountains, in one of the most extreme environments on the planet. Moreover, Raney lives off the grid with his family in south-central Alaska.
Long before he was on reality TV, Raney wrote and sang an anti-gay, homophobic song on a 1997 album. He continued to promote, including in connection with his Discovery Channel show.
