Upon graduating, Manos along with his Greek buddies moved to California to open a Philly Steak restaurant. He went with his then-girlfriend Rita to California. In California, he knew there were too many cooks in the kitchen so he walked away from the venture and took on a series of jobs to make ends meet. He struggled with back pain when he was a teenager and eventually found his way to a copy of Light on Yoga.
Manos began reading the book and practicing the poses and found some relief from the back pain he had struggled with for years. He had a chance to speak with BKS Iyengar, who told him to go to India. Manos and his wife moved to India after a few months. Moreover, he became a devoted and quick student as he took to Iyengar yoga with burning zeal. in 1976, he began his studies with Sri B.K.S. Iyengar.
