Lenny Henry ( Other names: Sir Lenworth George Henry CBE ) is a British actor, singer, comedian, tv presenter, and writer. He gained success as a stand-up comedian and impressionist in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Lenny culminated in The Lenny Henry Show in 1984. He became the most prominent black British comedian of the time.
Much of his material served to celebrate and parody his African-Caribbean roots. Lenny cofounded the charity Comic Relief in 1985 with the comedy screenwriter Richard Curtis. The comedian has appeared in many other TV programs such as the children’s entertainment show Tiswas, the sitcom Chef!, and The Magicians for BBC One. In his late years, Lenny has transitioned toward acting roles on stage and screen.
