Kristy Tamashiro is an American anchor and reporter. She currently works at KHON2 (a dual Fox/CW-affiliated tv) based in Honolulu, Hawaii, as the first-ever Digital Reporter who brings her viewers the stories of the beloved community. Kristy covers stories that affect the community and what matters to the people in her community. Before that, she worked at iHeartMedia, in Honolulu Island 98.5. There, Kristy did board oping and served as an on-air personality.
Away from that, Kristy has as well spent some time on the sidelines working as a sideline reporter for OC16. While there, she covered Hawaii high school boys soccer and football. Also, Kristy was able to connect with the Sports Department at KHON2 through her love of sports. At KHON2, Sports Director, Rob DeMello, took Kristy under his wings as a sports intern. The Oahu native is so proud to be a journalist in the community where she grew in. Kristy grew up playing volleyball and basketball with her schoolmates during her time as a student-athlete at Moanalua High School. While in school, Kristy earned OIA honors for basketball. She was also part of the award-winning media club MeneMac. She graduated in 2011 and later pursued an Athletic Training degree at the University of Nevada located in Las Vegas.
Kristy spent one year in the Athletic Training program before she got a change of heart and went back to the media. The change forced her to move back home and pursue a degree in journalism. Kristy joined the University of Hawaii at Manoa where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. She represented the University of Hawaii Manoa journalism program for their television broadcast called UHM TV as an anchor.
Additionally, Kristy served as a Sports Information Student Assistant for Hawaii Athletics. The position enabled her to create one-on-one interviews with star players and fun, highlight tapes, as well as informational features for the UH athletic program. Her time with Hawaii Athletics gave Kristy a chance to travel with the Rainbow Wahine Basketball team. The team made a historic run to March Madness in 2016 as the team videographer.
