Her Stephanie role won her three Viewers for Quality Television Awards, seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations, and a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Julia kicked off her acting by performing minor guest roles. Her first official main role was in the series The Doctors as Penny Davis from 1973 to 1978.
Additionally, Julia has appeared in television series such as Designing Women (1991–1992) as Allison Sugarbaker, Shameless (2011–2013), Looking (2014–2015), and Camp X-Ray (2014).
