Josh Gracin ( Full name: Joshua Mario Gracin ) is an American country music singer. He gained public attention for the first time as the fourth-place finalist on the second season of American Idol. Josh is a former member of the United States Marine Corps. He completed his service in the Marine Corps following his elimination from the American Idol show.

After his honorable discharge, Josh signed a record deal with Lyric Street Records. In 2004, his self-titled debut album was released. The album produced a number one hit, “Nothin’ to Lose”,  as well as two more top-five hits on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks charts. Additionally, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.  Josh’s second album titled We Weren’t Crazy was released in 2008. The album produced five more chart singles and a top ten in its title track.  In 2010, he released “Cover Girl” after signing with Average.

He was born to his father Mario and his mother Brenda on October 18, 1980, in Origin Westland, Michigan, United States of America. Josh grew up in Westland, Michigan along with his four sisters namely Stacy, April, Melissa, and Kristen. While growing up, Josh used to listen to Elvis, the Beatles, as well as vintage rock and pop on a favorite local station.

At the age of 11, his favorite station changed its format to country, and Josh was introduced to artists such as Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, George Strait, and  Joe Diffie. Their songs caught his interest immediately since there was no other genre that better-reflected situations in his life. He first made a public appearance at an eighth-grade talent competition where he sang Brooks’ 1993 hit titled “Standing Outside the Fire”

After Josh’s Idol stint and his discharge from the Marine Corps, he relocated to Tennessee in pursuit of his singing career.

However, relations with his wife soured and on August 14, 2014, Josh left a goodbye note on his Facebook account interpreted by some media as being a suicide note after it was tipped off to TMZ and it went viral. Later, Josh was placed on a psychiatric hold in a hospital and later released after voluntarily checking himself into an inpatient psychiatric facility. However, he maintained that the note was not meant as a suicide note but as he says a “poorly worded” painful separation letter as his ex-wife  Ann insisted on divorcing him. Shortly after, Ann filed for a divorce after 13 years of marriage.

Josh later shared new music, apologized, and indicated that he was on the road to recovery. In October 2015, he became engaged to his current wife called Katie Weir. The two tied the knot on May 6, 2017.  Josh released a new single titled “Nothin’ Like Us” in reference to his new relationship. On July 10, 2019, Josh happily announced that Katie was pregnant with their first child. On January 13, 2020, Katie gave birth to their son Luka Roman Gracin.

In 2003, Josh auditioned for the second season of the American Idol show. He successfully made it to the finals and came in fourth place on the show. Nonetheless, because of his earlier commitment to the Marine Corps, Josh was not able to participate in the lucrative American Idol Finalists tour of American venues. Instead, he was sent on a year-long tour as a recruiter. He made appearances at special events around the United States so as to promote the United States Marine Corps.

After his fourth year of service, Josh was honorably discharged in September 2004. His true transition from reality show finalist to recording star started when Josh sang Rascal Flatts’ “I’m Movin’ On” on one episode of American Idol.  Rascal Flatts watched the episode on their tour bus and Jay DeMarcus, the bass player was so much impressed with Josh’s talent and later reached out to him. Jay connected him with Marty Williams, who had co-produced both of Rascal Flatts’ breakthrough album as well as its successful follow-up.
