John Kiriakou ( Full name: John Chris Kiriakou) is an American journalist and author. He formerly served as an intelligence officer. Currently, John serves as a columnist with Reader Supported News. Also, he is the co-host of Political Misfits on Sputnik Radio.
Before that, the journalist served as an analyst and case officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). In addition to that, John served as the senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as well as the counterterrorism and a consultant for ABC News. In December 2007, he became the first U.S. government official to confirm that waterboarding was used to interrogate al-Qaeda prisoners.
John described it as torture. He pleaded guilty on October 22, 2012, to disclose the identity of a fellow CIA officer. John became the first CIA officer to be convicted for passing classified information to a reporter. However, the reporter did not publish the name of the operative. On January 25, 2013, John was sentenced to 30 months in prison.
He served his term at the low-security federal correctional facility near Loretto, Pennsylvania from February 28, 2013, to February 3, 2015. John did not serve his term in the neighboring minimum-security work camp as had been reported but did so in the general population.

John resigned from the CIA in 2004 after a 2002-2004 domestic assignment.
