John Chambers ( Full Name: John Thomas Chambers) is a popular American founder and CEO of JC2 Ventures. He focuses on assisting disruptive startups from around the world to build and scale. John was named Global Ambassador of the French Tech by President Emmanuel Macron of France. Previously, John worked as the executive chairman and CEO of Cisco Systems. During his 25+ years at Cisco, John helped grow the company from $70 million when he joined in 1991, to $1.2 billion when he became CEO in 1995, to $47 billion when he left as CEO in 2015.
As Executive Chairman, a role John held until December 2017, he led the Board of Directors and provided counsel to the CEO and leadership team on strategy, digital transformation and strategic partnerships. He also spearheaded the creation and development of Cisco’s country digitization program, where John collaborated with government leaders across the world to harness the power of technology to create economic opportunities.
Following obtaining his MBA, John began his career in technology sales at IBM 1976–1983 when he was 27 years old. At 34 years old, in 1983, John joined Wang Laboratories, later becoming Vice President of US Operations in 1987. During his time at the company, Wang’s profits declined dramatically from $2 billion in 1989 to a $700 million loss in 1990. A year later, John left Wang to join Cisco, which had gone public on February 16, 1990.
