Jason Austell is a popular American journalist. Currently, Jason serves as a Good Morning San Diego Weekend Anchor at KUSI 2 since April 2017. Before, Jason was serving at KNSD/NBC 7. Prior to that, Jason joined XETV-TV/Channel 6 working as the weekday evening anchor in July 2016.
Sadly, CW6 stopped its newscasts in March 2017 and Jason was out of work. The KUSI-NEWS/Channel 9 inducted Jason to co-anchor its “Good Morning San Diego” weekend version alongside Elizabeth Alvarez from 6 to 11 a.m.

He got his start in his broadcasting career in San Diego in the early 1990s. Serving as a traffic reporter for local radio stations, he would fly over San Diego freeways during the morning as well as afternoon drive times.
He served as the reporter and photographer onboard San Diego’s first news helicopter to be equipped with a gyro-stabilized camera in 1997. For the following ten years, Jason was the “point man” for traffic and breaking news. He reported brush and structure fires, rescues, high-speed car chases, he covered them all. All the thousands of hours he spent in the skies above San Diego give him a very unique perspective of the county.
Realizing his experience and presentation, he accepted an opportunity to be a morning anchor at the local TV station KNSD and worked there for eight years.
During his free time, Jason loves going to the gym, on his mountain bike, or hiking any one of the several fantastic trails San Diego has to offer.
