Jamie Dinan (Full Name: James Gerard Dinan ) is a popular American investor, hedge fund manager, and philanthropist who founded York Capital Management in 1991. He now works as the chairman, CEO, and managing partner of the money management firm. In 2014 Jamie bought a minority stake in the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks, with fellow finance tycoons Marc Lasry and Wes Edens. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Museum of the City of New York.
In 1985, Jamie took a job at the merger arbitrage firm Kellner DiLeo & Company. The market fell in 1987 and he lost his entire $600,000 in savings. In 1991, Jamie was able to raise $3.6 million from his retired DLJ colleagues and began his own hedge fund named York Capital (named following the street he was then living on, York Avenue). In 1993, Jamie’s fund earned credibility with a 33.8 percent return and by 2000, the fund had more than $610 million in assets. He named two eventual successors to lead York Capital in the future in June 2017.
