James Whale ( Full name: Michael James Whale) is an English radio personality, podcast host, tv presenter, and author. He rose to fame in the 1980s thanks to his role as the host of The James Whale Radio Show on Radio Aire in Leeds. The show was simulcast on national television. James hosted a nighttime radio show from 1995 to 2008, on talkSPORT (Talk Radio 1995–2000).
He was sacked in May 2008 because he called two times on listeners to vote for Boris Johnson prior to the 2008 London mayoral election 2008. This was followed by stints on LBC 97.3 and other BBC radio stations. Currently, James hosts his podcast The James Whale Show, and a nighttime radio show on talkRADIO and TalkTV.

He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2000. James had not experienced any symptoms until he noticed blood in his urine. This was caused by a large tumor on his left kidney. The journalist underwent an operation from which he had a 50% chance of survival. James chose not to have chemotherapy afterward. He launched the James Whale Fund for Kidney Cancer in 2006 to fund research and raise awareness of the disease. In 2016, The fund became Kidney Cancer UK. James revealed in August 2020 that his cancer had spread to his spine, brain, and lungs. He has often spoken of his dyslexia and is a patron of the National Literacy Association.
