Harrison’s second franchise role as the heroic was globe-trotting archaeologist Indiana Jones. The film was massively successful and became the highest-grossing film of the year. Harrison went on to reprise the role throughout the rest of the decade in the prequel Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and the sequel Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
During the June 1983 filming of Temple of Doom in London, he herniated a disc in his back. The 40-year-old actor was forced to fly back to Los Angeles for surgery and returned six weeks later.
