George Galloway is a British broadcaster, politician, and writer.  He served in this position until elected as MP at the 1987 general election for Glasgow Hillhead (later Glasgow Kelvin). However, he was expelled from the Labour Party in 2003 for bringing the party into disrepute after he called British troops to disobey orders. George became a member of the Respect Party in 2004.

By late 2013, he was the party leader. In the 2005 general election, he stood for Respect for Bethnal Green and Bow having decided not to seek re-election for Glasgow Kelvin, defeating the sitting Labour MP, Oona King. George only served one parliamentary term and did not contest during the 2010 general election. In 2012, he went back to the House of Commons at the Bradford West by-election.

However, George lost his seat in the 2015 general election. In the 2016 London mayoral election, he stood as the Respect candidate and finished in seventh place with 1.4% of the vote. In 2017,  George stood as an independent candidate for Manchester Gorton and for West Bromwich East in 2019. He founded the Workers Party of Britain after the 2019 general election.

He also founded a Scottish party called All for Unity to support British unionism in the face of rising support for Scottish independence as well as the Scottish National Party (SNP). George led the party into the 2021 Scottish Parliament election, where it captured 0.9% of the vote. Currently, he is serving as the leader of the Workers Party of Britain.
