David Frum is a Canadian-American political commentator. He is a former speechwriter for President George W. Bush and currently serves as a senior editor at The Atlantic as well as an MSNBC contributor. In 2003, David authored the first book about Bush’s presidency written by a former member of the administration.
He is credited for inspiring the phrase “axis of evil” in Bush’s 2002 State of the Union address. Previously, David served on the British think tank Policy Exchange, the board of directors of the Republican Jewish Coalition, and the anti-drug policy group Smart Approaches to Marijuana. Additionally, he also served as the vice-chairman and an associate fellow of the R Street Institute.

David joined The Atlantic as a senior editor in March 2014. He also serves as an MSNBC contributor. During the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict, he issued a series of tweets labeling as “fake” a photo of two blood-covered Palestinian youths bringing their father’s body to a hospital in Khan Younis; the man had been killed in an Israeli airstrike. As a result, David apologized to The Atlantic.
He received critics from the Washington Post media writer Erik Wemple and by a fellow correspondent for The Atlantic, James Fallows, who termed David’s tweets “a major journalistic error.” Following the temporary withdrawal of a Republican effort to repeal the ACA in 2017, David wrote an article in the Atlantic. The article chastised fellow Republicans and conservatives for failing to take his advice to behave with moderation and humility.

David Frum Trump
In 2018, David published Trumpocracy: The Corruption of the American Republic. The book is about the dangers posed by the Trump presidency to American democracy. In 2020, he published Trumpocalypse: Restoring American Democracy, a second volume about the Trump era and its consequences. Moreover, on May 15, 2017, David called on Donald Trump to resign from the presidency.
He appeared on stage with Trump’s former campaign CEO and White House Chief Strategist, Steve Bannon in the November 2, 2018 edition of the Munk Debates in Toronto, ON. They debated the future of populism in western politics.
