He is the son of Bob Duval, a golf instructor and club professional, and Diane Poole Duval, a member of the FSU Flying High Circus while in college. He grew up with his older brother Brent and a younger sister Deirdre. In his early years, their father was a club professional at Timuquana Country Club learning to play under his guidance.
