David Akin is a Canadian-born reporter. He currently serves as the chief political correspondent for Global News. His journalism career started in 1993 after he joined The Packet and Times in Orillia, Ontario, as the paper’s city hall reporter. David then moved to The Chronicle Journal in Thunder Bay in 1995.
While there, he worked as a senior reporter before joining The Hamilton Spectator. He also worked for the National Post before joining The Globe and Mail. David served as a parliamentary correspondent for CTV News from 2001 to 2008. He then went to work for Canwest News Service ( currently known as Postmedia). His role there was to serve as a national affairs correspondent. While at CTV, David won a Gemini Award for his reporting.
The Globe and Mail reported that David resigned from Canwest on June 10, 2010, for the position of the first reporter for Sun Media’s new all-news cable service. He was the national bureau chief for Sun Media and the Sun News Network from 2011 to 2015. David hosted The Daily Brief and later, the hour-long show Battleground.
Following the demise of the channel, the journalist was briefly a freelance reporter before he returned to the Sun chain after its acquisition by Postmedia, as parliamentary bureau chief and sole member of the chain’s Parliamentary bureau.
