He performed at the open mic of the now-defunct Laugh’s Comedy Cafe in 2000 inside the Season Ticket bar near the Spokane Arena. Dan entered the Seattle Comedy Competition the following year and finished as runner-up. While there, he met David Crowe. The two formed COBDOG, (Crowe On Bass, Dan On Guitar) a two-man stand-up and variety act. The highlight had a radio-friendly version of one of their sketches, “At The Coffee Shop,” this made The Bob & Tom Show best-of CD, Bob And Tom Gone Wild. However, the duo parted ways in 2003.
Dan performed at the New Faces showcase in 2005 at the Just For Laughs Montreal Comedy Festival. He caught the attention of Comedy Central as well as The Late Late Show talent booker. He performed on Comedy Central’s Live in 2006 at Gotham. This was his first performance that was recorded for television. Dan made his network television debut a month later by performing on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
He also performed at his second major festival, the HBO Las Vegas Comedy Festival in 2006. In 2007, he started off the year with his performance at the Comedy Central South Beach Comedy Festival. Then, Dan booked around 100 college dates at the NACA Nationals college booking convention in Nashville.

He recorded his first one-hour Comedy Central special called Crazy With A Capital F on October 17, 2009, in front of a sold-out audience at the Bing Crosby Theater in Spokane, Washington. The initial showing of the special on Comedy Central aired on May 29, 2010. The accompanying CD of the special was released on May 25, 2010. On June 8, 2010, the DVD version was released. Dan performed at the second-annual Rooftop Comedy Aspen Comedy Festival later in June 2009.

Dan appeared in season two of G4’s The International Sexy Ladies Show in 2010 before moving to Santa Monica, California, where he started working with Creative Artists Agency. Also, the comedian attempted to produce a number of television projects. A filmmaker called Mike Newman has been filming an ongoing documentary on Dan’s stand-up career since early-2009. In September 2014, Dan opened for Hughie Stone Fish, Los Angeles-based recording artist on the “Siren Songs” tour.
