Craig T Nelson (Full Name: Craig Theodore Nelson) is a popular American actor known due to his role as Hayden Fox in the sitcom Coach. He is also known for his roles in the 1980 film Stir Crazy as Deputy Ward Wilson, in the 1982 film Poltergeist as Steve Freeling, in All The Right Moves (1983) as Burt Nickersonm, and in The District (2000–2004) as Chief Jack Mannion. Craig also appeared as Zeek Braverman in the television series Parenthood.
He started his show business career as a stand-up comedian. Craig was an early member of The Groundlings improv and sketch comedy troupe. Craig, Barry Levinson, and Rudy De Luca created their own comedy team and were regular performers at The Comedy Store and on the short-lived The Tim Conway Comedy Hour in 1970. In 1973, Craig left the comedy world, explaining “the standup comedy life was pretty unfulfilling for me” and Craig settled in Montgomery Creek, California where there wasn’t electricity and running water; “it was contentment, The Waltons”, he said.
