Chevy Chase (Full Name: Cornelius Crane “Chevy” Chase) is a popular American comedian, actor, and writer who started acting with National Lampoon. He was a key cast member in the first season of Saturday Night Live, where Chevy’s recurring Weekend Update segment became a staple of the show. As both a performer and a writer, Chevy won three Primetime Emmy Awards out of five nominations and two Golden Globe Award nominations.
His early roles include the romantic comedies Foul Play (1978) and Seems Like Old Times (1980) opposite Goldie Hawn. Chevy portrayed Clark W. Griswold in five National Lampoon’s Vacation films such as Vacation (1983), European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989), and Vegas Vacation (1997). Chevy also played Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher in Fletch (1985) and its sequel Fletch Lives (1989). In addition, Chevy has hosted the Academy Awards twice (1987 and 1988) and briefly had his own late-night talk show, The Chevy Chase Show (1993). He also played Pierce Hawthorne on the NBC sitcom Community from 2009 until 2014.

Chevy has stated that he grew up in an upper-middle-class environment and that his adoptive maternal grandfather did not bequeath any assets to his mother when he died. In a 2007 biography, Chevy stated that he was physically and psychologically abused as a child by his mom and stepfather, John Cederquist. Both of Chevy’s parents died in 2005.
