The church began in 1990 with a bible study group founded by Vivienne Bechtold, Jim Bechtold, and Procter & Gamble brand managers Brian Wells. The bible study was based in Hyde Park, Cincinnati and it quickly grew to more than 100 people. Due to the increase of membership, the pioneers wondered if starting a church made sense.
The senior leaders raised funds to purchase an empty supercenter following five years in the junior high auditorium and growing attendance. The supercenter was renovated into an auditorium seating 1,200. The Megen Construction Company did the renovation and completed it a month ahead of schedule within budget. The architecture for the first renovation with Megen Construction was done by Champlin Architecture. Also, the company did work for the second phase. Phase two of the renovation expanded the auditorium, tripled the size of the childcare facility, and also modernized the design.

He started his vocational ministry career in 1987 after joining North Park Church based in Pittsburgh. There, Brian served as a student minister. He met his future wife, Libby, on the first Sunday on the job. While still there, he was ordained as a pastor in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church. However, Brian left North Park in 1995. He is the founding pastor for Crossroads Church based in Cincinnati. Brian and the other 11 founding members of the church put together their resources, he relocated his family to Cincinnati and Crossroads held its first service on March 25, 1996.
