Bishop Barron ( Real name: Robert Emmet Barron) is an American prelate of the Catholic Church, podcaster, and Author. He currently serves as the Episcopal Vicar of the Santa Barbara Pastoral Region. This is one of the five Pastoral Regions in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Barron is the founder of the Catholic ministerial organization Word on Fire.
He previously served as the host of a documentary TV series titled Catholicism about Catholicism. The documentary aired on PBS. He also served as a rector at Mundelein Seminary. As an author, Barron has published books, essays, and articles on theology and spirituality. Currently, he serves as a religion correspondent for NBC. Barron has also appeared on other channels such as CNN, Fox News, and EWTN. He has been informally called the “bishop of the Internet” and the “bishop of social media.”

Later, Barron transferred to a private Benedictine high school called Benet Academy where he graduated in 1977. He was then accepted as a Basselin Scholar at the School of Theology of the Catholic University of America one year later. Barron earned a Bachelor of Philosophy degree in 1981 and later graduated with a Master of Arts in philosophy in 1982. In 1986, Barron earned a Licentiate of Sacred Theology from Mundelein Seminary and was ordained on May 24, 1986, by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin.
From 1986 to 1989, he served as an associate pastor of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Parish in Park Ridge. Later, he was sent to France. In 1992, Barron earned a Doctor of Sacred Theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris.
