Ben Crump (Full name: Benjamin Lloyd Crump) is an American attorney, public speaker, author, and founder of Ben Crump Law, the Tallahassee, Florida-based law firm. He is the attorney representing the George Floyd family in the case of his murder. He is mostly dedicated to litigating civil rights cases.
He is best known for associating with the 2012/2013 George Zimmerman case, and for representing the family of the African-American teen, 18-year-old Michael Brown who was shot and killed by police in Ferguson, Missouri.

Floyd died on May 25, 2020, at Hennepin County Medical Center at around 9.25 pm. White officers Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao, and J. Alexander Kueng were out to arrest Floyd on suspicion of a “Forgery in Progress”. However, the arrest led to Floyd’s death when Derek Chauvin exerts his body weight on Floyd’s neck using his right knee in a video recorded by eyewitnesses.
Floyd is seen wailing the phrase several times with his face planted on the pavement with hands apparently cuffed behind his back. Derek Chauvin is seen kneeling on his neck. Observers standing nearby are heard telling officers that Floyd’s nose was bleeding and that he was dying. The officer and his colleagues show little reaction as the man gradually goes silent.
In the video, the police officer’s knee remains on Floyd for at least seven minutes, even as the man is pleading for help. “My stomach hurts. My neck hurts. Everything hurts.” Floyd pleads. At one point Floyd says, “Give me some water or something. Please. Please.”
Floyd pleaded with the officer to let go for while groaning in pain. One female bystander points to the officers that Floyd’s nose is bleeding and prompts them to check his pulse. officer Chauvin is unmoved by these appeals and appears to be pocketing all through. After about four or so minutes, Floyd seems to slump and falls silent. He was pronounced dead at Hennepin County Medical Center.
The FBI is investigating Floyd’s death, along with the Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, and Erica McDonald, the United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota.
Crump is representing the Floyd family in the case of murder against Derek Chauvin, the former officer who was responsible for Floyd’s death along with three other former officers.
