Bear Grylls is a British adventurer, writer, television presenter, and businessman. He first drew attention after embarking on a number of adventures and then became famously known for his television series Man vs. Wild 2006–2011. Grylls is also involved in a number of wilderness survival television series in the UK and US, including Running Wild with Grylls and The Island with Grylls.
In July 2009, he was appointed the youngest-ever Chief Scout of the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories at age 35, and held the post for a second term since 2015.
From an early age, Grylls learned to climb and sail with his father, who was a member of the prestigious Royal Yacht Squadron. As a teenager, he learned to skydive and received a second dan black belt in Shotokan karate. He speaks English, Spanish, and French and is an Anglican.

Grylls presented The Island with Bear Grylls, first shown on Channel 4 on 5 May 2014. An American version of the show was also made and it premiered on 25 May 2015 on NBC. It ran for five series, plus a renamed sixth series and a spin-off series. Narrated by Grylls, participants in the show are placed on remote uninhabited Pacific islands as a test of their survival skills. They are left completely alone, filming themselves, with only the clothes they are wearing and some basic tools and training.
