Ann M Martin (Full Name: Ann Matthews Martin) is a popular American children’s fiction writer, well known for The Baby-Sitters Club series which has over 180 million books in print, making it one of the most famous series in the history of publishing. She started writing short stories, and her fourth-grade teacher wrote on her student folder that she would make a wonderful writer due to spending so much of her leisure time writing in notebooks. Ann’s best subjects in middle school and high school were English and French, and her least good was math.
She released her first book, Bummer Summer, in 1983 which earned the Children’s Choice Award in 1985. Ann started writing The Baby-Sitters Club series in 1985 while serving for Scholastic as a children’s book editor. Following Ann writing the first 35 novels in The Baby-Sitters Club series, Scholastic hired ghostwriters to continue the series. She presently concentrates on writing single novels, many of which are set in the 1960s. An example of those novels, A Corner of the Universe, received a Newbery Honor in 2003.
