Andrew Romanoff (Full name: Harlan Andrew Romanoff) is an American politician and former Colorado House of Representatives member from 2000 to 2008. He is a Democrat and is contesting for the Democratic Party nomination in the primary on June 30, 2020. Should Romanoff defeat Michael Bennet to win the nomination, he will run in the 2020 general election to represent Colorado in the United States Senate.

Romanoff is a man of no meager academic standing. He attended Yale University from where he earned a bachelor’s degree. While at Yale, Romanoff took some time off to work at the Southern Poverty Law Center. It is during his time at the Law Center that he researched the Ku Klux Klan.
Later he worked at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination after which he went to teach English in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Romanoff’s political philosophy was greatly impacted by liberal philosopher John Rawls during his time in Nicaragua after reading his work; A Theory of Justice.
He then enrolled at John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University from where he obtained a Master’s degree in public policy. Romanoff worked for Democratic Congressman David Skaggs, before earning a J.D. degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

Romanoff’s campaign released an internal poll on June 18, 2020, which shows him still trailing former governor John Hickenlooper as the favorite to win the Democratic primary, come June 30. The poll showed that Romanoff was 12 percentage points down. According to his pollster Andrew Myers upon release of the poll:
“Romanoff will need to continue to introduce himself and his vision for Colorado and the nation while also reminding voters of Hickenlooper’s failings and his reticence to even want the job of serving in the Senate. Should Romanoff keep the momentum he clearly has today, this is likely to be a stunning upset.”
