He began doing stand-up at the Just Joking Comedy Cafe in Houston after his release from prison in 1997. Ali’s first stage appearance was during the comedy club’s Apollo Night. The show tended to attract a college crowd. He was booed on his first occasion on stage due to wearing a suit. Ali decided to wait a couple of weeks prior to attempting again while wearing jeans and a t-shirt. A month later, he became the co-host of the Apollo Night show.
