Adam Gilchrist ( Full name: Adam Craig Gilchrist AM) is an Australian cricket commentator. He formerly served as the international cricketer and captain of the Australian national cricket team. Adam was an attacking left-handed batsman and record-breaking wicketkeeper. He redefined the role of the Australian national team through his aggressive batting. Adam is widely regarded as one of the greatest wicket-keeper-batsmen in the history of the game.
He held the world record for the most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in One Day International (ODI) cricket. However, he was surpassed by Kumar Sangakkara in 2015 and the most by an Australian in Test cricket. Adam’s strike rate is amongst the highest in the history of ODI and Test cricket. His December 2006 57-ball century against England at Perth is the fourth-fastest century in all Test cricket. Adam was the first player to have hit 100 sixes in Test cricket. His 17 Test centuries and also 16 in ODIs are second only to Sangakkara by a wicket-keeper.
Adam holds the unique record of scoring at least 50 runs in successive World Cup finals in 1999, 2003, and 2007. In the 2007 World Cup final, Adam scored 149 off 104 balls against Sri Lanka. This record is rated one of the greatest World Cup innings of all time. Also, Adam is one of only three players to have won three World Cup titles. He was renowned for walking after he considered himself to be out, sometimes contrary to the decision of the umpire. Adam made his first-class debut in 1992.
In 1996, he had his first One-Day International appearance in India and his Test debut was in 1999. During his career, Adam played for Australia in 96 Test matches and more than 270 One-day internationals. Also, he was Australia’s regular vice-captain in both forms of the game. Adam captained the team when regular captains Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting were unavailable. In March 2008, Adam retired from international cricket though he continued to play domestic tournaments until 2013.

At the age of 13, his parents, Stan and June, moved the family to Lismore where Adam captained the Kadina High School, cricket team.
