Allison Arieff is an American writer and editor. She currently serves as the Editorial Director of Print for the MIT Technology Review. Before that, Allison served as the Senior Editor of City Monitor – The New Statesman. Previously, Allison served as the editorial director for the urban planning and policy think tank, SPUR. SPUR is a San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association.
She wrote a regular column about architecture, cities, design, and technology for the Opinion section of The New York Times from 2007 to 2020. During her early career days, Allison held editorial positions at Random House, Chronicle Books, and Oxford University Press. She helped found the architecture and design magazine Dwell in 2000.
In 2002, Allison was promoted to editor-in-chief following the departure of founding editor Karrie Jacobs. The magazine expanded its readership, and received a number of awards during her tenure such as a National Magazine Award for general excellence. In 2006, Allison left the magazine to become an editor at Sunset. She worked at Good magazine and was also a senior content lead for the design and consulting firm IDEO from 2006 to 2008.
